Howard White
Early in White’s basketball career with the Washington Bullets (now Wizards), knee injuries derailed his ascent to the NBA. White joined Nike as a field representative responsible for Nike’s eastern NBA clients. He played a role in the rise of the 6’ 6” phenomenon that would become known as Air Jordan. White’s business acumen and personal relationship with Michael Jordan elevated Nike and Jordan to global icon status, generating $200 million in annual sales for Jordan’s signature line. In 1991, White was promoted to coordinate Nike’s entire NBA operations. Since then, White has been Nike’s primary liaison for several NBA and NFL superstars, including Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Scottie Pippen, and Brett Favre. After working as Nike’s Director of Athletic Relations, where he was responsible for fostering positive relationships with Nike’s premier athletes, White was promoted to Vice President for the Jordan Brand, a separate business unit that includes cutting-edge footwear and apparel that sport the Air Jordan logo. White has also founded Nike’s “Believe to Achieve” program, an innovative traveling seminar designed to encourage adults to mentor and inspire the needed confidence in youth to build the road to success.
