Description

Foreword by John Gray, Ph.D.
(author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus)

"Finding love is not a destination; it is the beginning of a journey."
--David W. McMillan, Ph.D.

Each couple has its own love story--a story that is the essence of its relationship and that transcends time. Create Your Own Love Story shows how to take the shared history of how you met, how you fell in love, and how you overcame trials to create a love story that makes your relationship stronger, more enduring, and more soul-satisfying. The book is based on a four-part model derived from Dr. McMillan's twenty years' work in community theory and clinical psychology:

Spirit: A Relationship's Passion
Relationships are more passionate when couples tell each other the truth.
Trust: A Relationship's Power
A relationship needs to empower both people and not diminish either one.
Trade: A Relationship's Value
Love is about giving and receiving.
Art: A Relationship's Meaning
History that honors, affirms, and celebrates the relationship is the kind that transforms partners into artists and history into art.

Through these four principles, McMillan empowers couples to use their stories to create a love that is strong enough to survive external challenges yet nourishing enough to shelter each partner's spirit. The book includes touching and humorous examples from real marriages as well as brief exercises in visualizing, journal writing, and talking that are effective whether used by one or both partners.

Practical, optimistic, and wise, Create Your Own Love Story is an invaluable guide for couples on a quest for true love that triumphs over time.
