Description

Lane Nemeth is the founder of Discovery Toys. The story she tells in this book is a story about choices. About every woman's right to make up her mind...and her life...as she chooses. The point is made that the choices presented to most women, or as perceived by most women, are often too simplistic. Get married. Don't get married. Have children. Don't have children. Go for a career. Stay home. Familiar ground for thousands of books and millions of women.

In Lane's story we follow one life and one family through this maze of choices to discover that things are never really black and white. Either/or is something that happens in math, not in life. And at this particular juncture in this particular life, we find a marriage that has lasted 30 years. A daughter with learning disabilities that has just graduated from college with honors. And a business that has changed the lives of thousands of women and an entire generation of kids who have grown up smarter in "Discovery Toys Families."

Discovering Another Way: Raising Brighter Children While Having a Meaningful Career by Lane Nemeth

Lane Nemeth was born and reared in New York City. She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in education from Seton Hall University. Soon after, she became the director of a children's day-care center, where she was impressed by the high quality and developmental value of the center's toys and games.
After the birth of her daughter, tara, Ms. Nemeth realized these same products were not available commercially. That was the beginning of Discovery Toys. Starting in Martinez, California, as a home-based business using her garage as a warehouse, Ms. Nemeth developed her two-fold mission. The company would provide educational products that develop life skills and encourage positive interaction between parents and children. Secondly, Ms. Nemeth knew her company could provide a lucrative career opportunity to parents who sought the kind of flexibility that would allow them to stay at home with their children.

Over the next two decades, Ms. Nemeth's unwavering commitment to the mission, indomitable entrepreneurial spirit, and limitless creativity have propelled Discovery Toys to success. Today, Discovery Toys is headquartered in livermore, California, in spacious building that houses its corporate offices, distribution, and service centers.

Ms. Nemeth has received broad recognition for her accomplishments including an award from the National Association of Women Business Owners. Twice recognized by Working Woman as one of their "Top 50 Business Women," she has been profiled in major media from NBC's prestigious Today morning program to the highly respected publication, Nation's Business. She regularly serves as a featured speaker at national child development, business, and leadership seminars including the Stanford Leadership Academy
