An updated, indispensable guide to empowerment and self-discovery for teens.
While fashion magazines, television programs, and websites emphasize the superficial and foster insecurities, Sarah Stillman directs teen girls to a healthy place where a strong sense of self and direction take center stage. Originally written when the author was just sixteen, Soul Searching has been fully updated and expanded to address the concerns of today’s teens, bringing girl power to the printed page by offering young women a clear path to self-discovery and empowerment. Through fun quizzes, insightful exercises, and provocative statistics, Stillman guides young women through the complex maze between adolescence and adulthood.
Featuring updated sections on safe cell-phone use, social media, health, and gender, as well as including updated resources throughout, Soul Searching is a must-read for teenage girls.

For the 16 year old that needs some insight into their lives (and what 16 year old doesn't?) and to hear what others your own age think and feel, Soul Searching is the perfect "cook book" for you. It's one we will hove on our daughters' bookshevles, that's for sure.

Insights from a teen's perspective infuse conventional techniques of spiritual self-improvement: breathing exercises, meditation, aromatherapy, dream analysis, journaling, and more. While there may be nothing new about self-help put forth, the author's fresh viewpoint is impressive in its comprehensive scope. She has updated this edition to include "issues like cyber-bullying, sexting, and Facebook mania" and promoting healthy eating without obsessing about food or fitness. The volume is well researched and validated by Stillman's own experiences as well as testimonials from girls around the world. Playful line art decorates well-organized chapters, many containing nested lists, highlighted text boxes and "Further Resources" and/or endnotes for each chapter. The author's unpretentious yet stellar intelligence endears readers, who are likely to consider this book a new BFF. Destined to become a popular item.

Being a seventeen-year-old male, this reviewer figured the book would be filled with girly-girl talk about growing up and "The Talk." Luckily, this new version of the book by Stillman, who wrote the original version at sixteen almost a decade ago, shattered these preconceptions. The book is littered with methods to make your life more rich and meaningful, and even though the book is written with a young female audience in mind, many activities can be applied to men as well, as long as they are willing to break their manly-man mold. Overall, the book is a powerful example of the wisdom of young adults and the truths they can find in everyday things. This reviewer enjoyed this far more than expected.

Back when she was sixteen, before earning her master's from Yale and becoming a war correspondent in Iraq and Afghanistan, Sarah Stillman wrote a guide for girls just like herself who were seeking an understanding and appreciation of themselves. Now updated for the current crop of teens, Soul Searching offers tools to help overcome the problems of parental expectations, betrayal by friends, pressures to fit in, violence, internet bullies, and the challenges of living in a technology-obsessed society. Through yoga, meditation, feng shui, volunteering, dream interpretation and more, young women learn to overcome the negativity from without and within. Includes quizzes for self-exploration, activities to tap into inner wisdom, and inspiring examples of girls from around the world working together to overcome tough obstacles and stand tall inside their own skin.

In a world of toothpick-thin models and mixed messages from the media, girls need a beacon to help guide them through the rough waters of adolescence, and this book just may be it...Stillman uses language that preteens and teens can understand without ever sounding patronizing due to the fact that she was a teenage girl when she wrote the original draft. This book contains illustrations, workbook-style pages, and suggested readings. It is a must-have for any library that includes teen girls.
